Dietary Guidelines

Before you think of breastfeeding twins it is necessary that you keep the flow of milk. For this you need to drink plenty of water. You should also keep a glass of water while you are feeding them so that you can drink when you need. Drinking water while feeding your babies will stimulate the mammary glands that will keep the flow of milk consistent. You should also eat healthy food and avoid food with lot of oil. Protein bars, health drinks too are useful.

Alternate Breastfeeding Positions

While you feed your twins just do not hold them in one position. Keep altering their position. You may have them facing the same direction or make them positioned in normal forward position. The position of breastfeeding is important as the amount of milk suck by the twins will depend on the position on which you had held them while feeding. Remember that babies should be provided proper support while you feed them.

You Need Your Relaxation Time

Nine months of pregnancy was full of expectation but it had given you pains too. Those morning sickness, the discomfort during the end of the nine months and of course the delivery. No one needs rest more than you do. And then you have to take care of twins. It’s better that whenever you find time relax. Until and unless you are fit enough you will not be able to breastfeed your twins. Do not work too much and concentrate mainly on breastfeeding your twins while you stay beside them.

Switch during Breastfeeding

While you breastfeed your twins it’s necessary that you keep on switching the breast where they are fed. This is because when you allow one baby to suck from one breast only, shapes of your two breasts may change as the sucking pattern of both the babies will be different. However, when you switch your breast both the breasts get same pressure and there is no fear of change in shape.

Taking care of twins is not easy and if you have a helping hand in your home nothing can be better than that. While you are breastfeeding twins concentrate on that both of them are feeding themselves. Also while the twins are sleeping you should sleep so that you complete your rest during the period when they are in slumber.
