After your baby is born you are overwhelmed with joy. However, after becoming mother the most important thing that comes to your mind is taking care of your baby. You think about her health and want to ensure that she gets everything that will keep her in good health. One most important thing during first six months is your breast milk. You need to breast feed her at right time that will help her grow into a healthy child.
Now, one thing that may be worrying you is the breastfeeding schedule. It changes as the baby grows. You have to understand the cues given by the baby and also what your instinct says about it. You can get here a feeding schedule that will help you decide when to feed your baby. However, remember that there are ‘n’ numbers of factor that may result in changing this breastfeeding schedule. So, you may have to reconsider this schedule if required.
For a Baby Under 4 Months
For a baby whose age is under 4, breast milk is very important as they get all nutrients from the milk only. Thus, during this period feed the baby whenever you get a hint that she is hungry. When a baby is so small it rarely happens that they are overfed or underfed. Thus, try to understand every small hint that your baby gives and feed her the moment she feels hungry.
For 4 to 6 Months Baby
During this age the baby is ready to take semi solid food along with breast milk. You can give her iron fortified rice or cereals like oats and barley. While you introduce other food to her, start with one teaspoon. Mix it with breast milk and then feed her. With time you can increase the amount of cereals and start giving her one tablespoon cereal. You can feed your baby with cereals twice a day when she is of 6 months old. Along with this you should breast feed her at times when you feel that she is feeling hungry! It may be after 15 minutes or two hours. Keep an eye on her.
For 6 to 8 Months Baby
Now, your baby is growing is she is able to digest pureed vegetables and fruits. You can give her fiber of the food too. Choose fruits like pears, apple, banana, and peaches for giving her regularly once a day. You can also give her boiled carrots and sweet potato. Do not introduce all the food altogether, introduce them one by one and keep at least gap of 5 days before you give her another item.
However, when you introduce these food items do not forget about your breastfeeding schedule. You must ensure that still you are feeding your baby with breast milk. Remember it is the best source of nutrition for her. So, along with different cereals, fruits and vegetables it’s necessary that you keep the supply of breast milk. Remember that every baby has their unique need, so try to understand what your baby needs and schedule things accordingly.
